Were we dreaming of a wet Christmas?

It's Christmas Eve Day and all is well....

Yesterday Tom and I raced to an early morning showing of "A Night in the Museum III" (or something like that). It was enjoyable...."you'll laugh, you'll cry, but you'll never forget..." Really; it was worth the money. It was a little heartbreaking though seeing Robin Williams alive and knowing it was his last role..

It seems like warm sunny FL weather was a long time ago. I miss it!

(And to Margie Ferrare, who is my only blog follower, Hi! Merry Christmas! It was so much fun seeing you and Mike in Orlando! We look forward to seeing you here in NJ sometime soon!)

Google+ sent me some compilation of photos of mine of the year. I like it much better than the ones Facebook would have chosen for the year end gimmick people are posting.
Roberta's Photos ala google+    (Kind of cute, right?) :-)

It's hard to believe 2014 is so close to over. What will the new year bring? I hope good health and good times for all.

Vacation News!

Hard to believe I haven't posted anything since early November. Wow.

Well, here's where we are right now...Miami. We'll be leaving soon for The Round-up and some line dancing. En route we are picking up a pogo online tourney group friend of Tom's known as Yee (as in Yeehaaa).

Backing up, our vacation started with a flight to Las Vegas. While there, we visited with my high school friend, Steph, took a day trip via bus to the Grand Canyon, danced at Stoney's and Gilley's. (Gilley's had the added bonus of Cadillac Jack, of old WXTU fame). But the big story on this Las Vegas visit was the 24 hour pass to five of the buffets around town. Yum yum. (My favorite was Paris).

We were home for a about a day and a half (and did a gazillion errands like getting a crown at the dentist, hair cut, and bill paying) and then drove off for our next adventure....Florida!

We got to John and Helen's place in the Villages in a day and a half (with a sleepover at a hotel in NC) and were able to celebrate Thanksgiving with them at a neighbor's. (What a feast!) We golfed, too, and were happy to visit with the Rebardo's until it was time to drive down to phase one of our Bluegreen reservations -Solara in Miami.

En route, we detoured to Sebastian and had a lovely visit with Wilma and Harry, then continued on our trek to Miami. (We cleverly purchased a sunpass for highway travel in the sunshine state).

Interestingly, I spent the first four mornings here in class with some new H&R Block friends in the North Miami district. Skill classes completed. Check.

We have additionally danced at the Round up and enjoyed the beach, pool, hot tub, and other amenities in the area. The temperature has been pretty steady at 80 ish and the wind died down today for the first time (who knew we'd miss it?)

Tomorrow we are going to visit fellow Delran retiree Joan Klaus for lunch at her home here in southern Florida.

Our next leg of the journey is heading back up to Kissimee (and looking forward to seeing Harry and Wilma again, maybe Linda Price, Harry Potter, and Mickey Mouse).

Convention, Parente party, reunion, oh my

I have begun my quest to track down all living members of the Piscataway H.S. Class of '67 for reunion purposes. Hold the date - May 16, 2016! :-)

Tom and I went to the NJEA Convention in Atlantic City and I had some NJREA/ NJEA/BCEA fun.

Randy and Greg held their postponed Halloween Party which was also plenty of fun.

I am heading out for Sugarfootin' Sunday shortly. Dance, dance, dance! Yee haw!

Zip this!

I came across this interesting site that tells you demographic info about an area based on zip code. I'm not sure where to save it if I ever want to see it again, so I am putting it here. :-)
http://www.esri.com/data/esri_data/ziptapestry

So, Happy Halloween! and Happy Friday.

I am disappointed with today being the last day of open enrollment for the newly available new, less costly, dental plans for state retirees and not feeling comfortable enough with the situation to take advantage of it. I investigated it the best I could with the limited time frame and access to (read that no one answered the phone) the state pension people. I wanted to do it...no deductible, no maximum paid, comparable costs. It's the network of providers that's the kicker, of course, and the one visit I made to check out my potential dentist(s) was not uplifting. Also, the fact that there was no answer to the question of what happens at the end of the year...is there another chance to switch plans or no?

On a happier note, Tom got the all-clear from the neck doctor to start up regular life activities again. So we celebrated with him driving (yay!) to Prospectors for some dancing. Yee haw!
That was our second Prospectors visit of the week. We celebrated Melissa's birthday there on Wednesday.

Tomorrow is November. Oy. Time is going really really fast now....

Historical evidence of blogs gone by....

I attended the NJEA Communication Tools Workshop today.

I commented on it on this old old blogsite of mine with roots from yesteryear....

and now...off to dance! (Maybe Erin Rae will be there...? :-)

Catching up

It has come to my attention that I haven't illustrated for documentation purposes any of our activities and events since May. (?!)  That's a lot of months' worth. You could always check out the online collections at shutterfly:

Time Flies

I see I haven't written anything since August and here it is nearing the end of September. Wow.

Most recently I have started classes for Blockworks certification and we went to Phila. for Tom's follow-up on the melanoma (and paid 12 instead of 24 dollars for parking...whoohoo!), went to the movies ("Walking Around Tombstones" or something like that) and I did an overnight for Contact, and worked the Eastampton Fun Day (and so did Tom!) We've been dancing a lot... I attended the NJEA Fall Luncheon/meeting and BCREA Exec Comm meeting, visited Janet and Frank, lunched with my DEAR group at Dooney's Pub and also with Kathryn and Jackie at the pizza place......

I have to go...more later maybe....

Good samaritan

We left around 4 a.m. and it's now noon. We are in North Carolina and stopped to assist the people in the car in front of us that blew a tire at 70 mph. Very scary but they are okay.

Okay, now we are on our way again.  Looking forward to seeing our Myrtle Beach area friends while we are down. (Any chance of seeing you, Margie?)

And now it's August!

The summer is just rushing by. At least I don't have to worry about getting ready for the upcoming school year. That's a plus. (Hard to believe it's my ninth time in that situation!)

Yesterday the Eastampton Teachers Association hosted an ice cream social in the park for the community, which was a very worthwhile use of PRIDE money, in my opinion.Yum yum and thanks!

Our train trip to Atlantic City on Sunday to see Lady A in concert on the beach was a good experience. It felt good to participate in that historic event. No rain and probably less crowded than the Blake Shelton one on Thursday.  https://salleecountry.shutterfly.com/pictures/35

Randi and Greg's pig roast was fun, too. Their set-up is like a little resort-for-a-day with food and games and dancing...and even, this year, a great band for the tenth annual celebration. I wish we could have stayed longer, but after learning that Jo-Anne Brewin was in town with her ABBA tribute group performing in Sea Isle we really wanted to see her, so we did.

Today I am meeting Gee Gee for lunch at the Americana Diner. Tom will be golfing (he went down to practically AC again to go golfing yesterday, too).

It sounds like Sue and fam decided to vacation at Zoe's nannying family's haunt in Sun Valley, Idaho. Happy birthday to Sue!

Amazing dance routine

This is the dance routine someone shared on facebook I don't want to lose by The Company  (I went to the original source...sorry about the seconds of ad first!)

Okay, so while I'm here....most recently we had dinner with The Brunch Group at Vincentown Diner, which is very different (upscaled-wise) from the last time I ate there many years ago. We also went to the comfy seating Marlton AMC theater and saw Lucy earlier in the day. It was ....different....

The summer is flying by....next week is August already. Oy.

We had a lot of fun at this year's Jamboree in the Hills  and looking forward to vacationing in Myrtle Beach.

Who's coming with me on the First DAy of School Trip to Seaside???

Apes don't kill apes.....

We got up at the crack of dawn this morning to hit the ever so comfy recliner seats at the Marlton AMC theater and enjoy "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes".  I had low expectations, so I was pleasantly surprised.

My favorite part was that they carefully included easily identifiable characteristics for the main apes characters so I could usually tell who was who as the plot unfolded.

(All hail Caesar!)

Happy Anniversary!

Yesterday was our 15th wedding anniversary! Hared to believe it's been so long. It seems like yesterday.
We went dancing at Prospectors and everyone there sang to us. It was very sweet (and so is my wonderful husband Tom!)

If it's our anniversary, it must be time for the annual honeymoon to Ohio for the Jamboree in the Hills. Yes!

I think I"ll make it a project to organize photo collections from all the years at JITH and put them in one place.

Oh, guess what? Our new phones have a health feature that includes tracking 10,000 steps a day, so I'll be joining sisters Sue and Jennifer in participating in that. I started yesterday and it turns out there are a lot of steps in country dancing (like I didn't know that!) I walked in at about 3000 and danced out with over 12,000 steps taken! :-)

Waiter, what's that fly doing in my soup?

Spoiler alert! This is really gross.

Okay, I was drinking coffee and felt a lump, so I pulled it out of my mouth...and it was a fly! OMG!
I told Tom and he was really sad for me. (Quick back story...we have had a number of flies hanging out in the house and he has been spraying them like crazy...so chances are this one did a death dive).

I was sooo grossed out. Tom hopped up to get me a new coffee (get back on the horse, as it were...) and I suddenly saw movement on the plate where I had deposited the "lump". The fly was alive. OMG!!!!

I lived. That's the important thing.

Smart Phones are Us

It's July and the livin' is easy....

Our latest acquisitions have been a new ipod for Tom and two Samsung Galaxy 5S's.

We are still exploring the whole world of smart phones and apps and all the things available to us [insert background music: A Whole New World]. I am such a novice...the learning curve is huge!

We celebrated Independence Day with grilled turkey burgers,  a movie (Edge of Tomorrow) and dancing at Prospectors. Guess who wrote the screenplay for the movie? Chris McQuarrie! (I met him when he was working as a guard at the NJEA Summer Leadership Workshop years ago, before he won the Oscar for his screenplay of "The Usual Suspects"). And now I would like to get back in touch with former NJEA staff friends Allan and Kathy McQuarrie.

That's my fourth movie (or so) this summer. :-)
I am happy! (Except for recent actions by our current governor that is negatively affecting NJ's financial stability).

Internet mystery

Ever since yesterday I haven't been able to access the myfamily.com website. This is rather irksome because they are going out of business and I have a limited time to download all the photos I have posted there over the last gazillion years.

I was thinking maybe everybody and their brother (aka family members) were all attempting the same thing at once and it knocked the site off.

But now, I the same "can't load this webpage" is happening for homestead.com and that is more than irksome because it's how I do my websites.

What's happening?!!!

I hope this mystery is solved....and soon!

So while I'm here...new things...we got home from Nashville safely, albeit a day later than planned.
I have the first damage (minimal but aggravating) to my new car. We are finally getting together with The Brunch Group again on Sunday. I had fifteen in attendance at today's DEAR lunch (and bumped into the homefree in NJ Margie Ferrare who was also eating there, coincidentally). Tom has yet to set up a date for his neck surgery. I am heading to Trenton tomorrow with John K and the Gessmann's to talk to legislators. I called a couple of car insurance companies to compare prices and so far my own Plymouth Rock (the Teachers Insurance group) is by far the least expensive. [Personal ad: if you switch to Plymouth Rock, tell them Roberta Sallee sent you...or let me know you are interested and I'll give them your name...I think I get some kind of kickback.... :-) Thanks!]

Tonight we dance! (Even though Tom golfed all day and appears kind of wiped out...!)

No camera...the nightmare

More later with a recap on the whole CMA Music Fest 2014 adventure, but the point here is somehow between the 4 p.m. Jason Michael Carroll performance at the Riverfront Stage and getting into the car to head back to LP Field for the night concert, my camera was lost (forever it turns out).

While certainly not as devastating as many things in the world, it was pretty upsetting to me....Miss Camera herself. We lost all the photos from Day 3 and didn't get to take any photos of Sara Evans, Little Big Town, Darius Rucker , Florida Georgia Line, or (gasp) Keith Urban. (Of course most of the night was really pouring rain we were sitting under (en-poncho-ed) so I don't know how many photos I actually would have taken, but it wa dry  for Keith, who looked adorable as always).

Oh and I had no camera for today (Sunday) either. But now, thanks to Tom, and cutting out of the last day's frivolities early, I have a new camera as a replacement and I am bringing it tonight. (thus ending an incident both sad AND expensive).

We are looking forward to seeing Michelle, Marissa, Katie and whoever else is with them for lunch tomorrow.

CMA's!

We had a really really long drive (13 hours!) to get here, but now we are in Nashville and looking forward to the music and fun-filled week ahead.

New car!

I am the proud owner of a new (2011, 27,000 miles) Toyota Camry as of yesterday. Whoo hoo!

We bought it at Carsense and it was the easiest car-buying experience I ever had. :-)
I hope we drive in good health and for a long long time!

Speaking of good health, Tom is doing fine on all counts of recent health issues (cancer, knee-replacement) and will be dealing with the neck thing one of these days....

Oh, guess what? My doctors I've been going to for a million years won't give me the initial Welcome to Medicare visit. What's up with that? Do I have to switch doctor groups? :-(

I had lunch with Sandy and Conni last week and Gee Gee and Cathy Otto (!!) yesterday. I haven't seen Cathy since early high school. It was a great treat to hook up with them both while Cathy was in town (from CA) visiting.

Speaking about CA and visiting, today Tom and I are driving to Chevy Chase, MD (in our new car!) for a big family reunion of sorts as everyone (except Zoe, who is in FL...poor thing!) gathers for the event of Jackson's graduation (tomorrow). We are so looking forward to seeing the Kayes and Mays! (And congratulations to Cody, who just graduated from college!)

Here are some recent event photos:

Ah, retirement!

We are looking forward to the CMA Music Fest, but are sad to be missing Hannah's wedding this week-end. Tom just isn't ready for the trip. Jackson is graduating from college and Mary Grace is graduating from high school. Samantha had another baby, too....lots of happy family events.

Next on the agenda is a new car for me. What to get, what to get? (And oh...do I hate spending money on it :-(    Well, we shall see what happens....
